Stőry Museum to Close!!

Sent: Wednesday, July 21, 2004 12:40 PM

Subject: Störy at its end???

Dear friends in the UK,

maybe you did hear that the Landkreis Hildesheim will close the Störy  Museum.

So we have to do something against it. I talked to Otto and I was told it would be a good support to sent an email as letter to the editor to

redaktion@hildesheimer-allgemeine.de  (The local magazine ),  and tell them how many guests of different countries are coming to visit the museum.

I reckon its important to see for, Hildesheim how many people from different countries like that museum, and visit it each year.

Please have look whats going on with parliament, Störy and the Künneckes at  www.automuseum-stoery.de  or www.goggomobil.net

Please help to keep our museum as it is!

Thanks for help    Ferdi Tillmanns  www.kabinenroller.de

It appears that as a direct result of a long running dispute with the local planning authority Automuseum Stőry, the largest Micro Car Museum in Europe, which has been a pilgrimage for may Heinkel Trojan Club members, will close to the public on 31st October 2004.

For more information please check the web-sites above and e-mail the local magazine as Fredi requests.

Jim’s 3rd Yorkshire Weekend Another Successful & Enjoyable Event

Ten variously coloured Heinkel Trojans standing in a line in front of Thwait Mills.  From left to right cars belonging to Malcome Dodd, Garry Longstaff, Peter Jones, Alan Fisher, Ted Miller, Larry Turner, Mike O’Ballance, Ray& Jenny Dilks, Niell Foster & Nick Haddon

This year Jim based the Club’s Yorkshire Weekend in the grounds of Thwait Mills near Leeds, one of the venues visited last year.  The site was able to accommodate the much larger turnout this year with members and guests travelling from as far a field as Edinburgh and Shropshire.  More than twenty two vehicles made an appearance during the event with a total of ten Heinkel Trojans and a very smartly restored Trojan Mini Motor.

Fridays run was to Harry Ramsden’s famous fish and chip shop in Guiseley, follwed by a pint in the Woolpack, the pub that used to feature in the TV soap Emmerdale.  Saturday’s run was to Bradford Industrial Museum and Shipley Glen Tramway.  A classic 1968 Leyland coach was provided for those who did not want to brave the Leeds Traffic.  The coach was full for the trip to John Smith’s Brewery in the evening, the prospect of free drinks may have had something to do with this, and judging by the photo taken by Alan Town on the way back all had had a good time.

Sunday morning’s run was to nearby Temple Newsam Park before lining up for the display in front of Thwait Mills for the visitors to admire the cars.  Full report in next month’s Review.

Another Successful Bath Rally

Another ten variously coloured Heinkel Trojans standing in a line at the Bath Rally, including at least four not at Jim’s Rally.

This year’s Bath Rally again proved popular for Heinkel Trojans with a total of ten cars and a scooter turning up to match the total of nine cars and two scooters last year.  What was most pleasing was that Heinkel Trojans easily out numbered Isettas and Messerschmitt 200s.  There was also the best micro jumble for several years, many people, including myself, managed to acquire hard to get bits at reasonable prices.  Thanks to Wynford Jones and the Bristol Microcar Club for organising the event.

Heinkel Trojan Club 2004 Annual General Meeting

The 2004 AGM was held at the Stothert & Pitt Rugby Ground, Saltford, Bath on Sturday 3rd July 2004.

Eight members attended the meeting and a further three submitted proxy forms.

The start of the AGM was delayed until 1800hrs to allow those participating in the road run to return.

Formal business

The first five items of formal business,.

            1.         That the Annual Report & Accounts be approved

            2.         That Peter Jones be re-appointed a director

            3.         That Mike O’Ballance be re-appointed a director

            4.         That Nick Haddon be re-appointed a director

            5.         That Paula fisher be elected a director

were all approved unanimously.

Since the Annual Report was published there had be some changes to the Executive Committee; John Bennett had decided not to renewed his membership,  Martin Bellwood has agreed to take on the development of the club’s Web-Site and Grant Kearney had agreed to take on the duties of the membership secretary after this year’s National.

With these changes the resolution ‘that the directors’ appointment to the Executive Committee, was approved unanimously.

Discussion

HTC display at NEC Classic Car Show;  The format an content of the Club’s stand were discussed and offers of help were received.  (Peter Jones & Nick Haddon are organising this event, if you would like to contribute please contact them.)

Irish Tour 2005;  Following the success of the recent Irish tour and discussions with Irish Heinkel Trojan Enthusiasts a joint event for 2005 is being considered.  This would involve a few days in Wales followed by a few days in Ireland, possible in conjunction with the Dundalk Festival in late May.  (Having checked with the Club’s insurers the present policy does not cover the Club organising an event outside the UK but does allow us to attend events organised by others.)

Family Membership;  The subject of family membership was discussed with various suggestions being made by those present.

Text Box: Tomi Virtanen’s Trojan.  Tomi is from Norway and says the body shell is in very bad condition because previous owner is cut the fire wall away and put a snowmobile engine in it.
Tomi is looking for an engine for his Trojan as he only has a 175cc scooter one at present.  If you can help please contact Tomi direct at   Trojan@kolumbus.fi  or ring 00358 50 5534019.

Editorial Ramblings

Early Publication

As I plan to be on Holiday at the end of July this issue of the News Letter has been published early as I expect to be extremely busy on my return!!!

Poor Quality of Last Month’s photo-copied Newsletter

My apologies for the poor quality of some of last months photo-copies.  I get them done at the local Staples store and en sure that they set the machine to get the best compromise for the photographs and print.  The machine must have stopped and the setting been lost as some copies were worse than others.  The article from the Dundalk papers was unreadable in some cases, if you would like a better copy of this article let me know and I will send one.

I have still not worked out how to get good reproduction of newspaper cuttings.  They are of poor quality to start with, so need to be scanned at high resolution, this results in a big file which increases download time.  Any one with any suggestions please let me know.

Does anyone have experience of using the low cost colour laser printers that are now on the market?  Could they be a solution to poor quality photocopies?  Again please let me know.

E-Mail Addresses

I have now sorted out my e-mail; address book so that I can now e-mail those members who do not have a Newsletter sent to them to let them know there is a Newsletter in the Member’s Area of the web-site for viewing and downloading.  If you did not get an e-mail last month it means that either I do not have an e-mail for you or I have entered it incorrectly.  If you did not get an e-mail last month and want to be notified when a Newsletter in posted on the web e-mail me.

Text Box:

Does anyone know what happened to RVL 910

At a recent Newark Autojumble I met Leigh Smith who told me he had a red Heinkel Ireland in 1963 and wandered if it was still on the road.  He then e-mailed me a photograph of the car opposite.  There is no record of the registration in the Club Register so if you know of the car please let Leigh and me know.

Leigh can be contacted at    Leighvincent1@aol.com

Argentinean Production

Jack Vetter from America has sent me a photocopy of vehicle production published in an Argentinean magazine covering the years 1959 to 1971.  It states that ISARD ARGENTINA SOC. ANON (who’s main production was Goggomobils) produced 2,962 Heinkel Motorcupe in the period 1959-65.  These could have been cars supplied ready built from the Dundalk works.   Interestingly Los Cedros S.A. (1961) is not shown as having made any.  This could be because their production had finished in 1958 and the (1961) means the earlier company had failed.  Any one with further information please let me know.

Noel Byrne, who I met in Ireland, has discussed Argentinean production with one of his Heinkelling mates who worked for Lincoln and Nolan in Dublin when they were assembling the cars there.  He recalls some cars being exported to Argentina possibly in their hundreds but certainly not in the thousands.

Payments to the Club

As reported in the December 2003 Newsletter our credit card processing company made substantial increases in their charges.  We have been unable to find an alternative company to process credit cards at an acceptable cost.

Where possible members are asked to make payment by cheque drawn on a UK bank in Sterling (Great Britain Pounds)

The Club has now registered with PayPal so most members with an e-mail address can send money to the Club by this means using either a credit card or bank account.  Details at  www.paypal.com.  A 3% surcharge applies to payments made by this means to cover the costs they charge.

Please send Payment to the Club Treasurer at       fishertrojan@aol.com

We have a few non UK members in countries where PayPal is not available or do have an e-mail address.  For small amounts the easiest way is to send (Great British Pound) notes.  For larger amounts I will process credit cards through my employer’s system.  A 3% surcharge applies. Your statement will show “Paragon”

Remember that all directors and committee members give their time for free.  If ringing them do so at a reasonable time,  not before 10am or after 9pm.    Always ask if it’s convenient to talk and do not be offended if asked to ring back at another time.  If your call is being returned then expect to be asked to ring back so you pay for the call!!!  Telephone calls have a habit of going on longer then intended!!

If contacting a committee member by e-mail make sure you refer to ‘Heinkel’ or ‘Trojan’ in the title.  With so much ‘spam’ mail around these days I immediately delete any e-mail which I do not instantly recognise by subject matter or sender!
